In 2008 Mahmoud was awarded a Saïd Foundation Scholar to study for an MA in Educational Leadership and Innovation at the University of Warwick. On completion of his studies Mahmoud returned to Syria and until 2014 he worked as a Specialist Inspector in English Language.

Since 2017 Mahmoud’s career has focussed on supporting displaced families in Syria.
