The winner of the 2020 Alumni Achievement Prize is announced

The Saïd Foundation is delighted to announce that Dr Maha Shuayb from Lebanon has won the Foundation’s 2020 alumni achievement prize.

Dr Shuayb was supported by the Saïd Foundation to study for an MA in Counselling at Newcastle University in 2000 and for a PhD in Education at the University of Cambridge the following year. She currently leads the Center for Lebanese Studies, a policy research focused on education and social cohesion.

Dr Shuayb has won several prestigious research awards, one of which is the Lyle Spencer research award worth one million US dollars to conduct a comparative research study of the schooling experiences and integration of refugees in Lebanon, Turkey Germany and Australia. Outside of her work, she co-founded the Lebanese History Association to promote the teaching and learning of history in Lebanon, this association has trained over 500 history teachers in Lebanon and was asked to help establish similar associations in other countries in the Arab world including Jordan and Palestine.

The Saïd Foundation Alumni Achievement Prize is an annual prize awarded to an individual judged by the Foundation Trustees to have contributed significantly to the development of the region and to have shown the positive impact of their studies as a Saïd Foundation Scholar.
