Better Health Outcomes Globally

One of the Saïd Foundation’s objectives is to promote better health outcomes for people everywhere by supporting innovative and impactful projects at world-leading medical research institutions.

Saïd Research Initiative

The Saïd Foundation is supporting a health research initiative at UCL and Moorfields Eye Hospital to advance research into age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of vision loss for which there is currently no effective treatment.

The initiative has completed recruitment of its specialist team and made significant progress in understanding the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying AMD. Key research milestones have been achieved, including the recruitment and genotyping of families, collection and analysis of tissue samples, and development of in vitro models, all aimed at advancing the initiative’s research objectives. The initiative is led by Professors Tufail and Marcus Fruttiger.

Great Ormond Street Hospital

The Saïd Foundation is supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital in London in the development of a new Children’s Cancer Centre. The Centre will provide comprehensive care for children and their families, from diagnosis through to remission, enabling the hospital to deliver both life-saving and life-enhancing treatment.

As part of the development, the hospital will transform the entire Level 10 of the Children’s Cancer Centre into a roof garden, creating a therapeutic green space for children and their families.

Professorship of Vaccinology

The Saïd Foundation is supporting a critical professorship in vaccinology at the University of Oxford. This professorship will enable Professor Sarah Gilbert, the inaugural post holder, to continue her ground-breaking research in the field, while also helping to ensure that Oxford remains at the forefront of vaccine development for generations to come.
